Overcoming the Backlash:  Telling the Truth About Power, Privilege, and Oppression by Deborah Sinclair, 2003 available from EWA. This 182-page resource kit for community agencies explores a gender-based analysis of violence against women.

Walking on Eggshells:  Abused Women’s Experiences of Ontario’s Welfare System by the Woman Abuse Welfare Research Project, 2004. An excellent research report on the experiences of women who flee abusive relationships and turn to welfare.

Women’s Voices in Men’s Learning: What abused women say men should learn to stop their violence by Smita Vir Tyagi, Clara Castillo, Marie Mansfield, 2004. Presenting woman-abuse survivors’ input into developing programs for abusive men, this report is available through Counterpoint Counselling and Education Co-operative Inc.

Home Safe Home by Kingston Independent Living Resource Centre, 1999. Geared to women living in institutional/residential settings, this booklet discusses sign of violence and ways of getting support.

Charting New Waters: How to Respond to Violence Against Women with Disabilities by Justice Institute of BC. An excellent training manual and video about abuse of women with disabilities.

Nowhere to Turn? Responding to partner violence against immigrant and visible minority women by Ekuwa Smith, Canadian Council on Social Development, 2004. It’s in Our Hands: Stop Violence Against Women by Amnesty International, 2004.  This report investigates causes, forms, and remedies for VAW worldwide, and explores relationships between VAW and poverty, discrimination, and militarization. www.amnesty.org

The Economic Dimensions of Interpersonal Violence by the World Health Organization, 2004.  This report strengthens the case for investing in prevention by highlighting the enormous economic costs and consequences of interpersonal violence. www.who.int/violence_injury_prevention 

School-Based Violence Prevention Programs: A resource manual by RESOLVE, 2002.  This comprehensive resource on preventing violence against girls and young women addresses topics such as “What is Prevention,” “Changing School Culture,” and “Planning a Comprehensive Violence Prevention Response.” www.ucalgary.ca/resolve/violenceprevention/English/prevprog.htm 

Teen Dating Violence: Information and Resources by National Resource Centre on Domestic Violence, 2004. Dating: How to Stay Safe and Have Fun by Women’s Habitat, 2002. This CD ROM is an interactive information tool for youth. Available from EWA.
